What staff need during change

   During periods of change, staff need:
  • to develop trust, share the vision and accept the need for change
  • to be included in the planning process
  • to be prevented from being overwhelmed by change (with resulting feelings of uncertainty, anxiety and stress)
  • effective communications and training
  • updated policies and procedures
  • strong leadership

Manage change effectively

   
  • Don't try to control change - expect it, understand it and manage it
  • Communicate, communicate, communicate!
  • Develop a change management plan
  • Invite people to work together
  • Hold staff forums and encourage them to express ideas, concerns and frustrations
  • Gain the support of all key players
  • Keep it all in perspective - stay focused on the business goals

Become 'change adept'

   A change adept person is someone who:
  • has learned to adapt to and move with change, rather than resist or fight it
  • is usually energised by change
  • has attitudes and strategies that help build greater resilience
  • tends to flourish in changing environments

   To become change adept, we need to:
  • Prepare for the inevitable changes that are likely to occur
  • See situations as challenges rather than problems
  • Acknowledge and deal with negative feelings
  • Become a positive leader
  • Find creative, innovative solutions
  • Challenge unrealistic expectations
  • Be assertive
  • Maintain a healthy work/life balance
  • Focus on how we can add value
  • Acknowledge and celebrate our wins
  • Develop and maintain good communication
  • Aim for continuous improvement
