Training Hints and Tips
Here are some handy hints and tips that we have found valuable for training staff.
Design and deliver successful training
There are four key stages for successful training:
1) Conduct a training needs analysis
2) Design and develop training materials
3) Deliver training
4) Follow-up and evaluate
Some of the tasks include:
- Determine training needs, business benefits and costs
- Develop a Training Plan
- Develop training materials
- Measure performance before and after training
- Conduct learning activities
- Apply learning on the job
- Complete evaluation
Did you know ...
It is better to focus on learning rather than training. No matter how good we are as trainers, we cannot MAKE people learn anything!
Effective Job Aids
Job aids are used after training as performance support tools. They assist learners to complete new or changed tasks on the job.
Job aids include:
- Overviews and Summaries
- Reminders
- Hints and Tips
- Process flows
- High-level procedural steps
Job aids can be used to provide information, prompt memory and guide decisions. They are especially effective with:
- helping to avoid costly mistakes
- guiding lengthy or complex tasks
- processes that are likely to be forgotten
Job aids can be used to increase performance not only following training but also on an ongoing basis
People learn most effectively when they:
- want to learn
- are in an effective learning environment
- take responsibility for their own learning
- are challenged just beyond their level of ability
- are actively involved in experiential learning
- provide input and feedback into their learning
